Doula

What is Doula?
The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. A doula (also known as a birth attendant) believes in ‘mothering the mother’.She enables a woman and her partner to have the most satisfying birth experience possible, from pregnancy and into motherhood. This type of support allows the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience too Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

There is nothing in the world more sacred and precious than bearing witness to life’s first breath, to fully support the very woman who has set herself aside to bring forth life.

I see to all your laboring needs, including helping dad be as confidently involved as both of you wish. The most important needs I meet are the ones you can’t plan for, the ones you aren’t even aware you need, the ones that allow you to have the best birth you can have. I walked this path before myself multiple times and many more times with other women. The only thing you need to do is breath and relax knowing that everything is being seen to especially and most importantly you! I firmly believe every woman should be supported in labor by another mother.

There is something about the comfort and nurturing of a fellow mother, a sister woman; there is peace in her care, trust in her assurance. She guides you to surrender to your body’s Will. She keeps you tethered as you reach between Heaven and Earth to receive your new love. She protects you from your fears as you allow a power greater than yourself to flow. Labor is much like the waves of the ocean. The waves come at their own time, with their own force. We can move with them, float atop them or we can fight against them. Nature is far more powerful than are we. A good birthing attendant keeps you on your raft so you can float with the current and retain your energy. You will enjoy the most memorable experience of your lifetime!
